Auto Desk makes DRONA more Thrilling

Drona, a much awaited film has lots to showcase because unlike any other Bollywood masala it has the latest 3D techniques and visual effects to woo the Indian audience. And yes, Autodesk owns the credit for its magic. Autodesk’s softwares have been used for both 3D and VFX which makes the movie look larger than the canvas.

Much has been written about the special effects used in Drona. And why not, since the film has been in post-production since December 2007. The film is said to have around 1300-1500 visual effects shots. David Bush, the visual effects supervisor has worked on a number of European films. The special effects work for the film was given to six Indian studios namely Eros’s EyeQube, Prana, Future Works, Red Chillies, Tata Elxsi and Prime Focus Plus.

In an attempt to go behind the scenes, it is interesting to note some of the software used to create the desired special effects. According to EyeQube, software such as Autodesk Maya 2008 and C muscles provided the desired flexibility to characters while keeping within the realms of reality. According to EyeQube, the VFX were used by Goldie Behl as a tool for moving the storyline along. He asked the production house to give life to a character of the film and also to bring various storylines together by enabling what is photographically impossible.
