Lenovo introduces Protection and Data recovery services

BANGALORE, INDIA – November 13, 2008: With the intent of making the ownership of its PCs a convenient and delightful experience, Lenovo today introduced two new service offerings – PC protection service that insures Lenovo notebooks from accidental damage and Data Recovery Service that rescues users’ data from a faulty hard disk.

hir Puthran, Director, Services and Support, Lenovo India said, “In a mobile working environment, customers require their PCs to be up and running with minimal downtime. The two new service initiatives are aimed at helping our customers significantly reduce downtime and get back on track with their precious data.”

Protection Service

Lenovo’s Protection Service offers a performance-related insurance to enterprise and individual users’ notebooks, arising out of accidental drop or an inadvertent liquid spill. Unlike traditional insurance companies which cover for damage/ loss from extraneous factors, Lenovo’s Protection Service is specifically geared towards issues arising out of normal operating conditions and equips the customers’ notebooks to be repaired or replaced immediately to ensure minimal downtime.

The protection cover can be availed of for a period of 1 to 3 years and covers all kinds of repairs and replacements arising out of operational or structural failures under normal operating conditions or handling, inadvertent liquid spills, unintentional drops and bumps, electrical surge and LCD screen failure. The service however does not cover theft or loss, cosmetic damage that does not affect the performance of the machine and damage due to fire and intentional acts.

 Data Recovery Service

Lenovo understands the importance of its customers’ data. Data Recovery Service on Lenovo PCs is geared towards significantly reducing the down time by offering a new hard disk immediately, while attempting to rescue the data from the faulty/ crashed hard disk. The advantage of this service is that the customers’ work does not get hampered by the disk failure. In case of a crash, the consumer can contact the service centre, which first replaces the hard drive and sends the faulty drive to the disk recovery centre. The disk recovery center interacts with the customer and provides the recovered data on a best effort basis. The coverage excludes tampered/ abused HDD, external storage units and service provided by a third party service provider.

Lenovo has always been ranked high for its service and support initiatives in India. Dataquest placed Lenovo on top for its customer service in the desktop segment in 2008 apart from Technology Business Research’s international recognition as the best in notebook and desktop service, worldwide. Lenovo has also been recognized as the leader in customer satisfaction and customer loyalty for Notebooks, by Digit magazine’s Icon of Trust. Lenovo’s quality commitment extends to all its products and services, and is evident from its history – decades of best design, exceptional engineering, best components, best quality assurance standards and best service and support.

“The awards have motivated us to improve our performance further. We have invested in two new spare warehouses at Kolkata and Lucknow to improve the turnaround time of customer calls. We are aggressively expanding our service centers to all the districts of the country,” added Sudhir Puthran.

 Price and Availability

The protection service can be availed of, for Rs. 2,052/- for a year, while the data recovery service can be availed of, for a nominal charge of Rs.1, 200/- for a year. The services are available on the complete PC range from Lenovo – across the enterprise and consumer desktops and notebooks.
